I just got done reading The Hunger Games. Again. I'm reminded why it didn't take me long the first time either. I'll admit that when I first read the series, I was disappointed with the last book and the ending in general. Now that I've thought about it more, and am reading it again, I'm looking at these books in a whole new light. (Slight spoilers here, if you haven't read the books.)
These books are not about overthrowing a corrupted government. They are not about a love triangle. They are not about an angry, angsty, teenage girl.
They are about survival.
And reading the books with that mindset, I can appreciate them a lot more.
Of course, I'm also reading the books to prepare me for this:
If the entire movie is as good as the trailer makes it out to be (and so far it seems quite true to the novel), I'll be one happy reader come March 23rd. Based on the trailer, I'd say that the odds are quite in my favor. At least, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
One last note. How in the world will they make this film PG-13? Considering the content of the book, I'd guess there will be plenty of crops/cuts for implicit/off-screen deaths.
