Book Club: The Night Circus

Can I brag for a bit? Of course I can, it's my blog. :)

Guys, I hosted an awesome book club last month. The book I picked was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It's one of my favorite books and I've read it multiple times. Every time I finish it I feel just a little bit breathless, and a little bit enchanted. The magic of the book permeates my feelings. I love it.

It's a book about two magicians competing against each other in a contest, a contest in which they don't know the rules or how a winner will be chosen. And the contest takes place a circus, Le Cirque des Reves, a circus only open at night, colored in black and white, and full of mystery and the fantastic.

For my book club, I decided to make a bunch of treats available at Le Cirque des Reves.

I made caramel dip (with apples), popcorn, cinnamon twists, and, my crowning jewel:

Chocolate covered mice!
Aren't they cute? I'm really proud of them.

In the novel, there are some circus superfans called reveurs (that's "dreamers" in French) that follow the circus around when they can. As a tribute to the circus, they wear all black and white, but they also wear something red so that they can be recognized by other reveurs. And so, here's what I wore:

(Also, hi Appa!)

We had a great discussion about the book, and everyone oooed and ahhed about the food. I was so pleased by how it turned out.

If you haven't read it, you should!
