Time for Two

Kids, that is.

Yep, we're having another baby. Little Brown needs a partner in crime, or maybe just a little less attention focused solely on him.

It's a girl, and I'm excited because it means I won't have to wonder for each subsequent pregnancy whether or not I'll ever have a girl, so that's a relief. Also, baby girl clothing is so much cuter than baby boy clothing. But think again if you think I'd ever allow my daughter to wear a shirt saying "Too Cute for Homework" or other such nonsense.

I'm chugging along in the third trimester, expecting little one to arrive in the spring. This pregnancy has been similar to my first, but I was a bit more nauseous, hungry, and tired in the first trimester than I was with Little Brown. Everything is looking good so far, and let's cross our fingers that it stays that way. I'm mostly worried that I'll have high blood pressure at the end like I did with Little Brown and be forced to do non-stress tests and testing for pre-eclampsia. In the end everything was fine, but goodness those hospital pre-admit bills aren't cheap, so I'd like to avoid it.

We haven't agreed on a name yet. Girl names just seem harder to me. They have to be young enough that it fits when they're a child and old enough that it also works for an adult, but not overly cutesy or old-fashioned. But even if we do settle on a name before she's born, we'll wait for her to make her arrival before letting the name be judged by the general public.

Little Brown doesn't really know what's going on, but he does know that he's going to have a little sister and that right now she's in mommy's tummy. He likes to knock on my tummy to try to get her to come out. He also recognizes all the clothing we've slowly been acquiring for her when he sees it in the closet.

We need to move him from the crib to a regular bed in a new room so that he'll have time to adjust before little sister needs it. We'll probably do that in the next week or two, but I'm dragging my feet because it means buying a mattress, cleaning out what is now the toy room (and its accompanying closet), and teaching him to stay in his bed when there aren't bars keeping him in it. For the time being we're just going to put the mattress on the floor so we don't have to worry about him rolling off.

Other than that, there are only a few things left to buy, clothes to wash and sort, and then spending quality time with Little Brown before his world gets turned upside down. But I admit that I'm excited to hold a newborn again.
