I'm a punctual blogger, guys.
Between the end of our apartment contract in July and closing on our house in October, we lived with my parents. We're really lucky that they had the space and love to let us take over a portion of their house for 2.5 months. However, it's pretty clear that there's a good reason kids move out of their parents' houses once they become adults. While I love them dearly, being in such close quarters with my parents and our different personalities, parenting styles, and expectations was trying at times (mostly for me).
We were absolutely ecstatic when it was time to move into a place of our own:
Yep, we signed away 30 years to a bank (except I plan on it being much less time than that), along with indirectly committing to fun things like yard work, maintenance, trying to get along with neighbors, and someday finishing a basement. Because we're adults and stuff! But, despite the short time we've been homeowners, I will say that so far it's worth it.
I won't provide interior pictures at this time for or a few reasons:
- I haven't figured out how to decorate yet
- Even when I do figure out an aspect of decorating, I hem and haw and debate before I actually get around to committing to said decorating and then actually implementing said decorating
- I'm afraid to put holes in my brand new walls
- Decorating is expensive, and down payments don't exactly leave you with a lot of money for furniture and other decor
- Even when I do get a room (mostly) done, Little Brown makes a mess of it before I even dream of taking pictures
I'll probably never be completely satisfied unless I win the lottery and/or hire an interior designer, and since that's likely never going to happen...maybe someday you'll get a look at the inside? I'm getting closer and closer with the great room (kitchen/dining/living room combo), but it takes time and skill to really make a room feel put together. Of course, if I know you and you live nearby, you're welcome to come visit. Just give me a few hours notice so I can pick up a few toys, won't you?
Next time on Blue & Brown Chemistry: an overview of the rest of the year, including an update on the kids.
Yes, you read that correctly. Kids.
