I Pledge to Read the Printed Word

I came across a website that expresses love for the printed word--books, magazines, newspapers, etc.--over the increasingly prevalent digital variety.  I've heard those that say that one day digital readers will replace word on paper entirely, but not if I have anything to say about it.

I believe, as the founders of the aforementioned website, that while it is convenient, digital literature can never replace the weight of an epic in my lap or the feeling of creamy, textured paper between my fingertips.  And so, I will continue to buy books in their physical form.

Take for example, these five books, recently published and purchased by me, waiting patiently for me to caress their pages with my eyes and hands:

The Mistborn trilogy was what originally drew me in to the Brandon Sanderson world, so when I learned there would be another novel set in the same universe, I knew I had to have it.

I found this novel as I was perusing Goodreads.  It's an homage of sorts to 1984, a classic piece of dystopian literature, and I have a particular affinity for dystopian literature.  I also look forward to reading the first translated novel I've read since Crime and Punishment.

This is the sequel to Matched, another dystopian novel.  While that book had its shortcomings (i.e. almost being a mix between Twilight and The Giver), I read it so quickly that I knew I'd have to read the sequel.  I'm a sucker for love stories like that.

The final book in the Inheritance Cycle.  Paolini has matured as a writer since his lackluster and somewhat cliche debut Eragon, but I still don't think he's a literary master by any means.  That said, I have to know how the story ends, and perhaps this final book will redeem him in my eyes.

The final book in The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms trilogy.  Jemisin is an excellent wordsmith and her writing is always beautiful and imaginative.  It just takes a bit more effort to read than some other books.

Blue knows that one day I want a room in our house that is a dedicated library.  He gets bonus points if there are sliding ladders a la Beauty and the Beast.
