Originality

Folks, I have a dilemma.  It has recently come to my attention that my music collection is sorely lacking in classic jazz.

If you know me well, pick your jaw up off the floor--yes, I want to listen to "old" music.

But here's the crux of my problem: do I buy the tracks sung by the originals, a la Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin, or do I swing (pun intended) towards the modern swooners, like the silky smooth Michael Buble?

You see, I'm afraid that I'll lose some of that authentic old school big band if I go with the new guys.  And I'll feel slightly like a poser if I abandon the classic crooners.

But then again, I'm a fan of the clean modern recordings, and let's not forget.

That face.  That voice!

What to do, what to do?

  1. Simple -- listen to both! I really like both old and new music... some of the songs I have are even doubles, both old and new versions. It's fun to listen to the variation in style.

Sometimes you'll like the old classic better, and sometimes the new artist comes up with a version you just like way more. :)

  2. That's a good idea, and probably what I'll do. Now I just have to listen to the identical songs by different singers back to back a few times to figure out which I like better...
