Graduations

Pre-school graduation, Kindergarten graduation, elementary graduation, etc. are meaningless. There is no real reason for dressing your kid up in robes and handing them a rolled up piece of paper just because they're going to a different school next year.

Yes, I will probably attend my kids' so-called "graduations" when the time comes, if only to show them my support, but I'll probably be rolling my eyes 99% of the time.

Save it for high school and college, people.

  1. Oh. My. Gosh. YES! I keep seeing all these pictures and I just think, "As cute as your kid is, is this necessary?!" I had high school and college graduation and that's it. I don't understand all these preschool and kindergarten and 8th grade and whatever graduations!

  2. I have to disagree just a little after attending a few graduations for my kids. The graduations are to show parents how far their kids have come throughout the year, how much they have learned and grown. It allows the kids to feel a sense of accomplishment and a definite end to that part of their schooling. At such a young age it's hard for them to grasp that they are never going to go to that class again, never see all those friends they have made throughout the year, never have that teacher again. I believe that graduation ceremony's help them work through those emotions and get a better understanding that a HUGE part of their short lives is at an end.
I know I graduated from preschool as a child, not sure it happened with kindergarten though.

    1. I haven't reached this stage with my kids yet, so I fully admit that I may not have the best perspective to judge right now. You have a point about graduations perhaps helping young kids understand change. Maybe my opinion will change once I've been through it, but right now it all seems like unnecessary pageantry.
