The Great House Hunt, Part 3: The Decision

The last post about the initial phase of our housing hunt. Read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

That last post was a mean trick. I'm sorry. But you don't have to wait any longer. Which house do you think we chose? Did we go with Edge or Ivory?

If you guessed Ivory, you're right! In the end, location won out over interior square footage, price, and standard interior features. We're really excited about the neighborhood. We've driven around it several times and we love the feeling and that we've seen lots of kids playing outside. I imagine that in a few years I'll be really glad we're within a couple blocks of the elementary school. They're also putting in a park right next to the school.

Now, if I were reading this blog, I'd be curious about the floor plan. So I'll indulge you. It's this one. It may seem small to some, but I think it's going to be just the right size for our family.

We had our pre-construction meeting yesterday where we finalized all of our interior color choices, upgrades, and structural and electrical changes. I will say that it's a relief that I don't have to worry about changing my mind about the cabinet door style or brick color any more.

If you know me, you know that a lot of the upgrade money went to the kitchen. Here's a little teaser of what it will look like when it's finished:

White-painted maple cabinets,

white/gray/black granite,

and stainless steel appliances with a gas range!

I can't wait to see it all come together! But of course, waiting is just what we have to do now. Ivory has to send the plans to the city and get all the permits, etc. before they can start building. Since that will take seven or eight weeks, it will be a while. After that, they start digging, and three or so months later we'll have a house! If you want a timeline, that means we're looking at the house being done in October or November.

Crazy as it is, we're buying a house! I think this officially makes us real adults.
