The Season is at War with my Senses

When I was younger, I hoped that I would never be subject to all the terrible afflictions of my parents: bad eyesight, gray hair, and allergies.  But like so many that wish for perfection, my body had other ideas.

I came to college with good vision.  I didn't have trouble seeing the board.  In the inaugural semester of my sophomore year, I took introductory physics.  Physics was the bane of my existence in high school, however, suffering through it once before made my understanding much better at this time.  That is, as long as I could see the board clearly, which I found I could no longer do in my customary back row seat.  Off to the optometrist, back with glasses, and I could see the board at the cost of convenience.  I like to blame the many hours I spent (and spend) staring at a computer screen as the reason for my myopia.  Genetics probably helped.

When does one expect to start seeing gray hairs?  I didn't think it was until after 30, or at very least after kids, since my mom always said I gave them to her.  So either my melanin is declining prematurely or people have been hiding things from me longer than I'd guess.  Yes, I have found at least 3 gray hairs on my head.  They are few and far between but that doesn't make me any happier to have discovered them. I haven't even decided if one day I'll dye my hair.  These pigmentless protein strands may force the issue.

At last, to the title of my post.  I have never been so miserable in the springtime.  I usually rejoice in the warm weather!  This year my sensitization has (hopefully) climaxed and I'm constantly sneezing, sniffling, and trying to get the itch out of my eyes.  If it were only sneezing and sniffling I could deal with it, but oh the itch! Just talking about it seems to make my condition worsen!  After school, I'm making my way to the pharmacy to get some drugs to relieve me.

After years of watching the commercials, I better be Claritin Clear this evening.

  1. I'm not sure you even read my comments or like comments, but I just wanted to say... random single strands of grey hair are normal for any age. Some say it's a sign of stress, I'm not sure about that, but I wouldn't feel even more stressed because of it! :) Feel better, hun!

  2. Of course I read and love comments, especially yours! It's good to know that I'm not going to have a head full of gray before I'm 30. :)

  3. I have been finding gray hairs for the last 6 months or so. The first one was the hardest to deal with. It makes me feel old, then I remind myself I am only 23.
